The speaking difficulties of Chinese EFL learners and their motivation towards speaking the English language

One of the most important skills to acquire in learning a foreign language is speaking. It however, viewed as one difficult. This study involved observation non-English major students department Nanjing Tech University. Its aim was assess critically factors that affect speaking performances Chinese EFL Learners, find out their motivational levels and explore ways improve proficiency. Two survey questionnaires, well an interview item, were constructed. Seventy-five respondents conveniently sampled for learner’s difficulty questionnaire and, English scale, ten randomly selected respond interview. The inhibit categorized either linguistic or psychological. outcome revealed learners have problems relate more psychological like anxiety, fear mistakes, unwillingness, negative evaluation than such lack vocabulary, pronunciation, insufficient knowledge grammar rules, reading oral presentation. Furthermore, researchers investigated toward motivation considered fundamental element achieving findings showed instrumental motivations are slightly dominant integrative motivation. recommends instructors teachers should create conducive environment will help reduce anxiety shyness gather adequate strategies regular presentations classroom debates boost learners' confidence.
